Contact Memory Buttons

Contact Memory buttons (CMB) are small, rugged, stainless steel containers with memory chips sealed inside. Data is written to and from the button using a ButtonLink (probe) that is touched to the two electrical points on the CMB, thereby establishing a communication path. A CMB can act as an identifier or as a portable database in which data can be read and modified. The CMB is available in a variety of memory configurations and can hold up to four million bytes of re-programmable data. Battery-free, each time a CMB is read, a small amount of additional power is transmitted to it, further extending its memory.

CMB's, like those used by c|smart, physically attach to equipment/ assets to create portable, readily accessible, micro-databases capable of holding data about equipment and other material goods and provide a redundant means to access maintenance records.

Contact memory technology has successfully completed tough environmental testing using rigorous military standards, including: Temperature extremes, radiation, electrostatic discharge (ESD), electromagnetic interference (EMI), electromagnetic pulse (EMP), shock, vibration, solvents and saltwater. MegaButtons are small in size only 1.1 inches in diameter by 0.2 inches high and utilize battery free technology. Data is retained indefinitely.

ButtonLink

C|smart users read and write to CableButtons and PanelButtons using a required Link or Wand. This external device connects directly to the iPAQs serial port (12 and 21 pins). Software drivers included allow users to access and update information on a button in seconds through a familiar Windows interface on their iPAQ.
